RESPONSIBLE FOR:
The Charge Capture Associate is responsible for reviewing and analyzing all aspects of the department clinical documentation and care to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant charge capture and submission. The charge capture will include the assignment of departmental specific procedures, which may include surgical/lab procedure charges, infusion and injection charges, in according to departmental and governmental regulatory guidelines. May also review and analyzes unit-based medical record documentation and assigns CPT evaluation and management (E/M) facility codes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assign departmental specific procedures, which may include surgical/lab procedure charges, infusion and injection charges, according to departmental and governmental regulatory guidelines.
2. May reviews and analyzes unit-based medical record documentation and assigns CPT evaluation and management (E/M) facility codes.
3. Abstracts medical record documentation to capture all appropriate charges.
4. Serves as a patient account resource for unit.
5. Reconciles charges on service accounts.
6. Collaborates with cross-campus counterparts such as Revenue Integrity, clinical staff, and HIM to ensure appropriate, accurate, and complete documentation and charges.
7. Other responsibilities as assigned by department manager/director.

3. Skill and ability to respond to discrepancies and/or charging errors identified through independent audits or by third-party payers.
4. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
5. Keyboard by touch with basic experience and knowledge of PC applications.
6. Excellent communication skills when dealing with patients, families, public, co-workers, and professional offices.
7. Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
8. Strong time management skills when dealing with multiple priorities and a heavy workload in a high-stress atmosphere.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School Diploma/GED required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two (2) years of experience in healthcare with knowledge of medical terminology and coding terminology (including CPT and ICD).
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
None
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in data entry and/or prior medical coding/billing preferred.
Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC™) Credential or Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) is preferred.
Patient Care experience a plus.
