JOB PURPOSE: The Manager, Organ Preservation is responsible for the Organ Preservation Team and procurement activities related to the surgical removal, preservation, and transportation of organs. This involves working collaboratively with department leadership, staff members, physicians, and organ procurement organizations. The manager will also be responsible for building and implementing strategic plans for all activities associated with organ procurement, preservation and transportation at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Build, develop and manage a team of two or more organ preservation specialists including recruitment, training, competency verification and performance management.
• Develop and manage a 24/7/365 call schedule and participate in the call schedule for at least 10 days per month, including offering back up support during unforeseen circumstances. Call requirement may adjust as the expectation of the role changes with the development of the program.
• Facilitating and organizing processes for logistical communication with Organ Procurement Organizations, Transplant Call Coordinators, transportation organizations and Transplant Surgeons during the organ recovery phase.
• Develops and implements contingency plans to ensure a successful organ procurement process intraoperatively.
• Surgically assists with recovery of organs for transplant for both abdominal and thoracic programs.
• Organ preservation of both abdominal and thoracic organs including donor OR management, perfusion in transit and potential perfusion at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
• Involved with recovery of organs for research
• Remains in compliance with PTI and UNOS policies and procedures related to packaging and labeling of organs.
• Assists Transplant Surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers with preparation of abdominal organs for transplantation (back bench work)
• Manages the maintenance, stocking, and preparation of supplies to a constant state of readiness for organ recovery process.
• Participates in transplant service and hospital-wide committees, task forces or meetings as indicated by role appropriateness
• Available for 24-hour call shifts to meet the needs of the Transplant Department
• Develop a strategic and operational plan for continued expansion of the organ preservation team
• Other duties assigned at the direction of Transplant Administration.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Ability to recognize and identify normal anatomy.
• Basic knowledge of federal, state and industry laws/regulations related to organ recovery including OPTN, CMS, and OSHA.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associates Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Five or more years of operating room or organ preservation experience.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW: Certified Transplant Preservationist (CTP) or Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) required.
