Description

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrates proficiency in the ability to operate personal computer with expert knowledge of Word and Excel, and ability to learn other required software programs for forms design and electronic record systems.

 

Work requires ability to edit and proof correspondence typed and reports prepared.

 

Work requires detailed understanding of functions and operations of HIS as a whole in order to assume responsibility for. Reviewing records against established standards and meeting departmental goals.

 

Interpersonal skills necessary to deal and communicate effectively and courteously with Medical staff, Administrative Staff, Department Heads and others within the organization.

 

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to use electronic systems, interpret and report data to administration and medical staff.

 

Work requires ability to work independently, problem solve, make decisions, and follow through with assigned work.

 

Work requires analytical skills necessary to organize work, recognize things to be done, promote industry best practices, and follow through without specific instructions.

 

Work requires mathematical calculations be done such as totals and percentages.

 

Must have high degree of accountability in maintaining confidentiality of correspondence, processing medical information, and following written policies and procedures for releasing confidential information.

 

Must have working knowledge of medical terminology.



Physical Demands
Ability to view computerized images for long periods of time. Manual dexterity to enter data and retrieve data from computer. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to move about the organization, walking and standing for extended periods of time.

 


Requirements

Education
High school diploma or GED required

 

Licensure/Certification:

HIM credentials preferred


Experience:

High School Diploma or GED with two (2) years administrative/secretarial or health information experience required in a healthcare setting. Experience must include significant utilization of various computer applications to include word processing and spreadsheets. Experience with desktop publishing and/or forms creation software applications is a plus.

 

No experience required with the completion of a HIM program.
