Shift/Schedule: Full-time
JOB PURPOSE:
The Patient Sitter is responsible for observation of patients who have been assessed as confused, combative, have the potential to cause themselves harm, or are a fall risk. The sitter will contact the staff nurse as appropriate with concerns. The sitter functions under the direct supervision of the nurse responsible for the care of the patient.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receive report from the assigned patient’s nurses regarding their safety status, condition, mobility and diet.
2. Monitor patients to provide a safe environment free from falls.
3. Observe and report any complications/ deviations/unusual information about the patient or environment to the patient’s assigned nurse. Team member will refrain from the use of personal devices while in the patient’s room.
4. Follows appropriate AIDET guidelines.
5. Provides support to the patient, family, visitors and care team of assigned patients.
6. Document patient activity, concerns and communication regarding the patient by notifying the primary nurse.
7. Sitter must remain with the patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
8. The sitter will report off at the end of the shift to the primary nurse and oncoming sitter.
9. Adhere to entity policies, procedures and defined standards.
10. All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
· Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
· Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
· Ability to work as a member of a team.
· Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.
