JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Nursing Director/Manager/Coordinator/Supervisor, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The RN is responsible for directing all nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice and federal, state, and local regulations. The RN incorporates knowledge of patient’s age specific development and cultural diversity into the plan of care. The RN contributes to quality nursing care through process improvement techniques and multidisciplinary collaboration that demonstrates positive outcomes in the delivery of patient care. The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills needed. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem-solving skills. Analyzes Data: Ability to break down data into component parts to analyze and identify underlying issues.
B. Remains Calm in Crisis: Ability to remain calm, productive, and effective during stressful or fast-paced work situations (not overreacting) and to keep challenges from negatively affecting job performance.
C. Uses Technology Efficiently: Ability to understand and utilize information systems and information management.
D. Implements Process Improvement: Ability to analyze the work flow to ensure current processes facilitate the accomplishment of work.
E. Aids Nurse Development: Ability to educate nurses through exposure, experiences, and feedback.
F. Prioritizes Tasks: Ability to shift attention between multiple activities and competing demands, and to manipulate the order of tasks by importance.
G. Demonstrates clinical knowledge and application of the nursing process to provide evidence-based patient care, consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
H. Utilizes knowledge of growth and development, psychopathology, and psychosocial systems to plan and implement age-appropriate and culturally-sensitive care interventions.
I. Demonstrates competence in crisis management, including verbal de-escalation skills and appropriate application of seclusion or restraint, in accordance with federal, state, local and facility regulations.
J. Demonstrates clinical knowledge and application of the nursing process to provide evidence- based patient care, consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
Degree of Supervision Required:
Involves general guidance and direction by the Department Manager. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.


Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
RN graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
None.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Current unencumbered license in state of practice or Multistate Compact Registered Nurse License, in accordance with law and regulations.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification
CPI- must be completed within 90 days of hire.
BSN preferred.
Experience in Behavioral Health preferred
