Description

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Under the supervision of licensed clinical staff, provides care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, demonstrating competency with treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to the clinical setting and hospital policy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs and/or assists with patient care specific to cardiovascular patients:

  • a. Safely removes both venous and arterial sheaths
  • b. Safe removal of TR Bands
  • c. Perform 12-lead EKG’s
  • d. Performs ISTAT functions as appropriate
  • e. Performs venipuncture
  • f. Assess pulses and mark prior to procedures
  • g. Proper access site prep
  • h. Transporting non-narcotic medications as needed
  • i. Transporting pre/post patients per policy and in conjunction with nursing

2. Insertion, maintenance and/or removal of Foley catheters as appropriate
3. Assists with patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial and health history.
4. Assists patients with ADL activities; functions independently with treatments, equipment and procedures appropriate to the scope of clinical practice. Assists with mobility, feeding, oral care, bath and range of motion.
5. Performs treatments timely, to include glucose, checks, incentive spirometry, simple dressing changes, wound/ostomy care.
6. Maintains and monitors skin integrity by turning patients every two hours, applies treatments and barriers as ordered and monitors patient regularly.
7. Documents in the EMR in a timely manner all vital signs and treatments provided.
8. Communicates between all care partners effectively. Ensures primary nurse is aware of any issues, changes in patient condition or concerns
9. Assists with admission and discharge process. Meets patient in the room when admitted whenever possible to obtain vital signs and assist with patient intake.
10. Reinforces education provided by licensed staff.
11. Controls patient care cost by ensuring accurate recording of patient charges.
12. Scheduling patients/procedures and filtering phone calls
13. Other duties as assigned

Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
One year of patient care experience in a cardiovascular setting, OR Certification from a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician program.


MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Certification from a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician program, OR one year of patient care experience in a cardiovascular setting.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
BLS certification required
